The Hazard Perry Tourism (HPT) Commission inquired about our services in early 2007. HPT needed a solution that would make it possible for staff to update the site without our intervention. In response, we developed a WordPress powered website with a Flash Gallery and Google Calendar integration that still ranks as one of my all time favorite designs.

I’ve got a recommendation for a Firefox plugin that has really helped me optimize our site lately. My favorite so far has to be SearchStatus. This installs and places Google PageRank, Alexa and Compete graphs on the status bar of your firefox window. You can see the aformentioned rankings for every page you visit. Our Alexa rank has went from somewhere in the 4 millions to 804,380 as of this blog entry. I love watching that number go down! So anyway, if you’re a Firefox user, and you should be…download it!

This is the first in a series of articles we are going to start writing. In the end, we hope to share our experiences with you and offer a benefit to you. This first article is all about SEO and Internet Marketing.
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization is one of these web 2.0 buzz terms you probably keep hearing over and over. Wikipedia defines SEO, “the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results for targeted keywords”. Maybe you’re scratching your head wondering; “How does SEO benefit me?”. Simply put, search engines are made with one purpose and that is to search. Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask!, may all have different business goals and corporate missions but their search engine tools provide you with one basic service and that is to search the internet for a string of text you’ve provided it. SEO is all about ways to improve what the end user gets back from that keyword search.
How can I improve my search engine ranks?
Since search engines search for TEXT, your site needs plenty of it. Here at WaveFade Media we code our sites with SEO in mind. We make use of meta data, descriptive titles, and make sure there is plenty of text on our client sites for search engines to find. You want your site linked to from as many outside sources as possible. This is a term referred to as “Backlinks“, the more incoming links you have, the more important you appear to the search engine. There are many ways to build links and we won’t go into that in this article, we just wanted to point out the importance of this aspect. All major search engines have submission tools you can use. Google, the biggest player in this space, has GREAT pay-per-click ad services that also help your ranks, it costs money…but it drives traffic. If you are selling products online PPC ads are a necessity.
WaveFade Media LLC can help you with all of your SEO and internet marketing needs. New clients get SEO services as a built in feature with most of our product packages. We offer ALL of our services at $30 per hour. We can help you build up your page rank and drive traffic to your site that will make your business succeed. Contact us for more information!

This is a mockup we did for a law firm. Pretty cool use of color. The mockup was not chosen for their final site design, but we wanted to put it up to be seen online as it could be used for another site at some point.
